Rocking chairs have a very characteristic aspect: a pair of curved bands, commonly known as “rockers.” These parts are placed at the bottom of the chair, allowing the user to “rock” backward and forward. There are child-size rocking chairs that comply with the same function but are smaller in size.
Traditionally, rocking chairs are made of wood. Their designs can vary based on who makes them. For instance, some of these chairs can be similar to sofas and have interesting patterns throughout the frame.
Rocking chairs appeared in America – and became popular within its borders – during the 18th century. Although the origins of the creation of these chairs are still unclear, Benjamin Franklin is sometimes referred to as their inventor, but this could be wrong as the first rocking chairs appeared during the early years of the mentioned century.
Child-size outdoor rocking chairs
As with many other objects in this world, there are smaller versions dedicated to kids. There are numerous ergonomic chairs designed for children, like the ErgoChair Junior. This fact isn’t different if we talk about rocking chairs.
Child-size rocking chairs have the same characteristics as their “adult” version. Whenever someone sits on them, the chair will automatically pull them back until they meet their center of gravity. Then, the user will enjoy a constant, comfortable sitting position.
Child-size rocking chair plans
As mentioned above, all rocking chairs are different. Thus, their aesthetics will differ based on who designed them.
However, something that all designs have in common is the measurements. All of them can be similar in mechanics, it’s true, but the measurements can be tricky for someone who has never designed one of these chairs in the past.
Ways to measure a child-size rocking chair’s cushion
We’ll explain two ways you can use to measure a child-size rocking chair’s cushion in this section. If you’re more of a visual learner, here you can find a video explaining what we have typed below.
Measure the seat.
- First, calculate the depth of the seat starting from the back to the front of it.
- Find the narrowest point of the seat and calculate the width based on it. You will very likely find it close to the back of it.
Measure the back.
- Start by measuring the height. Start from the seat, and then start going to the top.
- As for the width, find the narrowest point of the seat and calculate it based on the said area. This part can be found close to the bottom. If not, you can always take measurements based on the armrest.
Please note that the methods mentioned above may not work for everyone – especially if you’re inexperienced. If that’s the case, please contact a professional to help you with the process.
There are multiple types of child-size outdoor chairs you can choose to build. However, rocking chairs are amongst the most challenging due to their unique nature. Still, your child will love their new furniture as it will provide them with a “soothing” feeling every time they use them. Then, you can accompany them for a nice cup of tea.
